Takehisa Yumeji, famous for his paintings of beautiful women, is known as a symbol of Taisho Romanticism.
Yumeji also devoted himself to the design of daily necessities, running the Minatoya Soshi Shop and selling hand towels, yukata (summer kimonos), woodblock prints, pot-bags, chiyogami (traditional Japanese paper for wrapping paper), letter paper, and envelopes.
He also worked on commercial design, bookbinding, and numerous other designs, and was a pioneer of Japanese graphic design.
Yumeji's works are characterized by bold patterns and unique colors.
His use of motifs from everyday life and patterns that are both nostalgic and new have been popular throughout the ages.
