Description
| This stole is woven on a vintage shuttle loom and features a soft and fluffy twill weave. Although it is difficult to maintain and the production volume is small, the yarn can be woven without applying more tension than necessary, resulting in a comfortable texture that is the original quality of cotton. Shuttle loom is an old design loom that weaves fabric by sending a wooden shuttle with a yarn tube inside to the left or right. Newer looms, called innovation looms, use computer control to control speed, tension, density, and weft pattern, but shuttle looms adjust by rearranging the gears. In addition, most parts are no longer supplied, and broken parts are often found secondhand or made by hand at an ironworks. Lubrication every few days is essential. Every few yards of weaving, the thread tube in the shuttle must be replaced, and the hand must be kept busy. It is a difficult loom to handle, as it cannot weave too fine yarns and cannot produce complicated patterns. However, there is a texture that can only be created on this loom. The yarn can be woven slowly without applying more tension than necessary, resulting in a soft, unique texture with a surface that is not flat. 綾織りのふんわりと柔らかな肌ざわりが特徴の、ヴィンテージのシャトル織機で織ったストールです。
メンテナンスが難しく生産量も少ないですが、糸に必要以上のテンションをかけず織ることができるため、綿本来の心地よい風合いに仕上がります。
シャトル織機とは、糸管が中に入った木製シャトルを左右に飛ばすことで生地を織る、古い設計の織機です。
革新織機と呼ばれる新しい織機は、コンピュータ制御でスピードやテンション、密度、ヨコ糸の柄を制御しますが、シャトル織機は歯車を組み替えることで調整します。
また、パーツの供給が終わっているものがほとんどで壊れた部品は中古品を探したり、鉄工所で自作したりすることも多いです。数日おきの注油が欠かせなく、
数ヤード織るごとにシャトルの中の糸管を交換しなければならず手が離せません。
細すぎる糸は織ることが出来ず、複雑な柄は作れないなど、扱いのむずかしい織機です。
しかしこの織機でしか生み出せない風合いがあります。
糸に必要以上のテンションをかけずにゆっくり織ることが出来るので、柔らかく、表面がフラットにならない独特の風合いに仕上がります。
デニムのセルヴィッチと同じように両端に"耳"が生まれるのも特徴です。
