The historic kyusu teapots are made in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, and the teacups are made by craftsmen in Hasami-cho, Nagasaki Prefecture, where the teacups are produced. Each kyusu is carefully handmade by craftsmen who form the body, lid, spout, tea strainer, and handle, and then bake each piece until it is completed.
The delicate and soft movements of the craftsmen are like those of a Kabuki actor who has nerves all the way down to his fingertips.
The tea strainer is made of fine mesh ceramic that has no metallic smell and brings out the aroma and flavor of tea to the fullest. The more the tea strainer is used, the deeper its color and luster will change over time, making it even more endearing.
