Masahiro Mori (died in 2005), based in Kyushu's Hakusan Pottery, was a designer who continued to lead the Japanese ceramic scene, and is a master of Japanese product design along with Sori Yanagi, who passed away at the end of 2011.
[Since its release in 1958, the G-type soy sauce jug has been a very long-selling product that is often used in restaurants as well as ordinary households.
In recent years, it has become popular again through sales at select stores and the Japanese tableware series that he has designed for MUJI since 2004.
This book focuses on Masahiro Mori's words and way of life, with 85 sincere and passionate words by Masahiro Mori about "making things, design, life, and society" taking center stage.
In addition, interviews with the staff of Hakusan Pottery with whom he worked, his business associates who have closely observed his design work, and his students are also included to give a vivid picture of Masahiro Mori.
The contents of this book offer a taste of Masahiro Mori's thoughts on design, as he continued to create universal designs right up to his death.
From the inside page (all words by Masahiro Mori)
[I think it is not enough to be beautiful. You have to be tough and have a fighting spirit for modeling. You have to have the courage to create something new.]
[Go make something usable.]
[What will come out of imitating what has been completed?]
[Life is changing, but things don't stay the same.]
[Design is determined by the stomach and the market. Design is determined by the stomach and the market. Therefore, I want someone who has a real feeling and is thinking about it.]
