Description
Masahiro Mori (died in 2005), based in Kyushu's Hakusan Pottery, was a designer who continued to lead the Japanese ceramic scene, and is a master of Japanese product design along with Sori Yanagi, who passed away at the end of 2011. [Since its release in 1958, the G-type soy sauce jug has been a very long-selling product that is often used in restaurants as well as ordinary households. In recent years, it has become popular again through sales at select stores and the Japanese tableware series that he has designed for MUJI since 2004. This book focuses on Masahiro Mori's words and way of life, with 85 sincere and passionate words by Masahiro Mori about "making things, design, life, and society" taking center stage. In addition, interviews with the staff of Hakusan Pottery with whom he worked, his business associates who have closely observed his design work, and his students are also included to give a vivid picture of Masahiro Mori. The contents of this book offer a taste of Masahiro Mori's thoughts on design, as he continued to create universal designs right up to his death. From the inside page (all words by Masahiro Mori) [I think it is not enough to be beautiful. You have to be tough and have a fighting spirit for modeling. You have to have the courage to create something new.] [Go make something usable.] [What will come out of imitating what has been completed?] [Life is changing, but things don't stay the same.] [Design is determined by the stomach and the market. Design is determined by the stomach and the market. Therefore, I want someone who has a real feeling and is thinking about it.] ────────────────────────────── Table of Contents Preface by Kenmei NAGAOKA (Design Director) Chapter 1: Living as a Designer Words of Masahiro Mori Mr. Mori's way of selling nomo (Mr. Keiichi Matsuo (President of Hakusan Pottery)) Mr. Mori's silent teachings Dr. Mori as an educator: Masatoshi Eiki (product designer) What Masahiro inherited from his father and mother Chapter 2: Creating Form Words of Masahiro Mori Memories of being scolded by Mr. Mori Kazuhiro Tominaga (Chief of Design Department, Hakusan Toki) Forms born from real feeling Yukiko Fukuda (Designer, Hakusan Pottery) Mori-san and Matsuya Ginza Discussant: Setsuko Yamada (Lifestyle coordinator) The teachings of "Banki Fuyasu" that supported Mr. Mori Chapter 3 Design in Society Words of Masahiro Mori Design of tableware for business use The Shell Series: How it was introduced to the world Talk* Yasuki Sakamoto (Hakusan Pottery, Design Department Manager) [The Future of the Flat Tea Bowl Makoto Komatsu (Product Designer) [The meaning of "Design is democracy Jutaro Miyazaki (Bamboo craft artist) Masahiro Mori Profile Hirotaka Oda (President, Design Mori Connection) Ryoji Hayashi (Vice President of "Talking about Masahiro Mori") About [Society to Talk about and Tell about Masahiro Mori Illustrations Source: [Words of Masahiro Mori |
