The 600-year-old NPM is the culmination of 5,000 years of Chinese culture.
The Palace Museum, with its 600 years of history, is the culmination of 5,000 years of Chinese culture. The gorgeous architecture, costumes, exquisite furnishings, and porcelain have all been decorated in various forms. The aesthetics and philosophies of our predecessors are reflected in the myriad of patterns created by poetically depicting the seasonal scenes and by the devotion to good fortune.

This book reproduces such traditional patterns and motifs that symbolize Chinese culture with detailed and beautiful digital illustrations. While introducing the intention behind the colors, the book reveals the origin and allegory of each pattern, and explores the aesthetic sense that underlies Chinese culture. The patterns, which are based on designs of all things in the forest and myths and legends, will give visitors a sense of the origin of the aesthetics of Eastern civilization, its rich stories, and the skills of its artisans.

This book is useful as a resource for Chinese illustration, design, painting, fashion, interior design, storytelling, and other China-related creations.

*Selected 117 species from five genres: dyeing and weaving, porcelain, carpets, enamelware, and architecture.

*Color samples with CMYK values are provided for all 117 patterns.

*Enjoy a variety of motifs such as mythological and legendary animals and plants.
