糸魚川翡翠 日本国石 (Itoigawa Jade)
勾玉（まが玉）の形に加工した、糸魚川産の紫の翡翠です。
国石として指定された糸魚川産のヒスイ（翡翠）で淡い緑の中に斑模様が入っています。
熟練職人の手によって、厳選したよい石の中の、更によい部分のみを削り出した勾玉です。
糸魚川産の翡翠は日本で唯一の、そして世界でも有数の「宝石室翡翠」として、その質の高さが評価されています。
糸魚川市の翡翠の原産地は、日本海にそそぐ姫川上流の小滝地区と、青海川上流の橋立地区にあります。
一部エリアは天然記念物に指定されています。翡翠はこれらの川の河原や、河口付近の海岸で発見されます。
