Born in 1940. Graduated from Keio University School of Medicine.
He has served as a professor at Kyorin University School of Medicine, Showa University School of Medicine, and International University of Health and Welfare.
He continues to practice mainly in Tokyo and is also active as a lecturer and writer.
He was the first president of the Japan Depression Society.
In 1999, he founded the OCD Study Group, which aims to research and raise awareness of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
