日本銘石とは
日本各地で産出される石で、協会の定める規定に基づいて銘石リストに登録されたものです。
産地、歴史、色彩、構造など、世界的に共有すべき「石としての総合的な魅力」を持つ鉱物のことで、
その価値が認められるものが対象となっています。
銘石は、その物によっていくつかの条件に判別されます。
・文化的に顕著な普遍的価値をもつ地域を産地とするもの。
・石そのものに歴史的謂れのあるもの。
・希少性などにより高められるべき価値のあるもの。
・地質学上、鉱物学上の魅力が認められるもの。
・後世に残すことが難しくなっているか、その可能性を有するもの。
・その存在を広く普及し、認知されるべきものであること。
・ひときわすぐれた自然美及び美的な重要性をもつ自然現象
または産地を象徴するもの。それらが当協会の認定する代表的な銘石の条件です。
ただの石材や名産品ではなく、銘石として銘を与えることでより存在意義や価値は高くなります。
また、まだその魅力が認められていない石や、時代とともに日の目を浴びることのなくなってしまった美しい石も存在します。
日本の石を銘石に認定していくことにより、今新たな評価を受けています。
