■インドの手仕事文化の継承

しかしながら、その状況を一変させたのが18世紀半ばから始まった産業革命とイギリスのインド植民地支配で、その支配により、インドの綿織物産業の衰退が始まっていきます。そして、それに立ち向かったのが【マハトマ・ガンディー】です。自分たちの手仕事文化を守るために、綿を手紡ぎし、手織りの布を広めていきました。その行動によって、人々は仕事が与えられ、インドの独立に貢献したと言われています。
