This is the first history book and research guide in Japan that reveals the entire picture of the U.S. Presidential Library.

How did presidential documents, many of which have been lost in the past despite their high historical value, come to be stored in presidential libraries* and made available to the public? Part I details the history of the presidential library system from its birth to the present. It delves deeply into the history of the management of presidential documents, which is the foundation of democracy.

The use of presidential library materials is significant not only for the study of the United States, but also for the study of contemporary history in Japan and other countries around the world. However, there are currently high hurdles for Japanese to use presidential libraries due to the difficulty of collecting information and access. In Part 2, we will explain in detail the information necessary for smooth research at the Presidential Library. It provides comprehensive information on how to prepare for your trip to the U.S. * procedures * access to presidential libraries * how to use the libraries * contents of the collections * and more.
