The characteristic of Kasama-yaki is its durable finish made of gairo-me clay, which is sticky and fine-grained. It is durable and resistant to stains, and is widely used for kitchen utensils such as water jars and tea pots, as well as other miscellaneous daily-use vessels. Because frog-eye clay contains high iron content and turns brown after firing, decorative techniques such as pouring glaze and overglaze painting are used rather than neat painting. Pottery has water absorbency. Soaking the pot in rice brine or water before use will prevent stains and stains from sticking to the pot.
