バスケットボールは、バスケットにゴールした
得点を競うスポーツです。
試合では相手よりも1点でも多く点数をとった
チームが勝利となります。
つまり自分たちの得点よりも、
相手の得点を1点でも低く抑えれば
勝てるということです。
1点でも失点を少なくするよう頑張るディフェンスは、
1点でも多く点数をとることと同じくらい
大切なプレイなのです。
ディフェンスの一番の目的は、
ゴールを決めさせない、
つまりゴールを守ることにあります。
当たり前のことなのですが、
試合が始まるとつい熱くなって忘れてしまい、
無理に相手を止めにいったり、
ボールを奪いにいってファウルトラブルを起こし
試合を壊してしまうことがあります。
わたしはバスケットを指導する際は
「オフェンスが上手で2点取ってくれる選手も良い選手だけど、
ディフェンスが上手で相手に2点取らせない選手も
同じぐらいとても良い選手」
という話をよくします。
オフェンスで良いシュートを決めたときと同じように、
ナイスディフェンスで
ゴールを決めさせなかった時にも
大いに喜び、
仲間や指導者は大いに褒めて
ディフェンスの重要性を理解することが大切です。
そうしたところを実践することで、
さらにバスケットボールの面白さを感じ、
選手としてもチームとしても
成長することができるでしょう。
