High school students' historical awareness is regressing, blamed on inconsistencies in the curriculum and problems with entrance examinations. This book was produced in cooperation with high school teachers from all over Japan with the motto of rebounding from such a situation and making students aware of the significance and interest of learning history. The book aims to foster the habit of familiarizing students with history through various innovations, such as minimizing the number of names of people and years, aiming for explanations that "connect the picture" [that show cause-and-effect relationships and background], and inserting questions to learners at key points. This is a groundbreaking textbook that can be used as supplementary reading for citizens and entrance examinations.
