和名をフェナス石といい、外見はクォーツ（石英）に似た美しい天然石。
モース硬度は7.5で、ベリリウムのケイ酸塩の鉱物です。
ベリリウムは緑柱石の鉱物から産出される物質で、アクアマリンやエメラルドにも含まれています。
稀少価値の高い石
フェナカイトは産出量が少ない希少性の高い天然石ですが、
そのなかでもロシア産のフェナカイトは原石が枯渇状態であることから、
ロシア在住の方でさえも入手困難といわれています。
しかも、加工していない原石の状態でのロシア産フェナカイトは、市場ではまずお目にかかることはできない逸品です。
