| This series features animals that appear in the first grade Japanese language textbooks for elementary school students (lower volume) [Animal Babies] (Mitsumura Books) and [Animals Who Protect Children] (Tokyo Shoseki). The book is composed of photographs and stories of the animals from birth until they stand on their own. The text by poet Ryo Kisaka, who has been featured in many textbooks, conveys the lively lives of the baby animals. The illustration pages introduce detailed data and ecology. The illustrations explain things that are difficult to show in photographs. By comparing each volume, you can gain a deeper understanding of the animals, such as the differences in the state of upbringing at birth and the speed of growth. The [Let's compare!] page at the end of the book allows students to use the information directly in the classroom. In the sixth volume, "Little ringed plover," the "pseudo-scratch" that the parent birds do to protect their chicks and eggs is introduced, allowing students to learn the wisdom of protecting their young.
