Description
[Roller-printed textile (copper roller printing) is a general term for machine-printed cloth that was born during the Industrial Revolution. This fascinating cloth, produced mainly in Manchester but also in Japan and Germany in later years, was the envy of the world in the 16th century, and threatened Indian textiles and the craftsmen who worked on them. Today, they are antiques and valuable documents that provide a history of trends, aesthetics, and technological innovations of the time. This book presents a selection of beautiful and precious textiles from the vast collection of Savarsh Sharma and Jatin Sharma, a long-time antique dealer in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. With commentary by Pramod Kumar KG, an Indian researcher and curator, and Philip A. Sykus, a long-time British researcher on textiles. *This book is written in both Japanese and English.
