Description
(Development Story) Vinyl umbrellas have come to be made simply at low prices, making them fragile, and at the same time, a consumption structure unique to Japan has taken root in which umbrellas are used up and discarded. We wanted to change the consumption structure of vinyl umbrellas in Japan and started development of durable umbrellas that are not disposable. Focusing on the characteristics of plastic with its strength and flexibility, the all-plastic umbrella [+TIC] was born, which is friendly to both people and the environment. It won the Good Design Award in 2017. In recent years, the Ministry of the Environment has been promoting the use of parasols as a measure against heat stroke, partly due to global warming. We have paid attention to this global environmental issue. We have developed an all-plastic umbrella [+TIC COOLSHADE] with the functionality of a parasol, while keeping the concept intact. (All parts have long-lasting specifications.) The handle, shaft, bone, and butt are all made of all-plastic, and since no metal is used, it does not rust and has a strong structure due to the use of a fiberglass bone. Also, the use of titanium fabric instead of PU finish allows the umbrella to last longer than conventional sun/rain umbrellas. (Designed by Fumie Shibata) The umbrella won the Good Design Award (2009), which is rare for umbrellas. The short size umbrella, which is convenient to carry, and the all-plastic umbrella with recycling in mind were highly evaluated as being friendly to both people and the environment. |
