*Frame Painting [Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Highway, Shono] by Ando Hiroshige*. By Ando Hiroshige, Edo period, Tokyo National Museum This framed picture is attached to a thin mount. Hiroshige Ando From 1797 to 1858 (Kansei 9 to Ansei 5), he became a student of Utagawa Toyohiro and entered the ukiyoe world, not liking the family job as a fireman's apprentice. At first, he painted beauties and portraits of actors, but he gained fame for his landscapes and became a leading artist of landscape prints. He also left behind flower-and-bird and hand-painted works. His representative works include "The Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido", "Famous Places in the Eastern Capital", and "Eight Views of Omi". |

安藤広重(あんどう ひろしげ)
寛政9〜安政5年(1797〜1858)、火消し同心の家職を好まず、歌川豊広の門人となり浮世絵界に入る。初めは美人画や役者絵を描いたが、風景画で名声を得て、風景版画の第一人者となった。花鳥画や肉筆画の作品も残す。代表作は『東海道五十三次』『東都名所』『近江八景』。
