プチ・ファーブル熊田千佳慕の驚異的な描写力の影には、こんな努力があった！

「日本のプチ・ファーブル」と呼ばれた細密画家の熊田千佳慕。
虫を愛するあまり「私は虫である」という域に達した著者が、本業の細密画制作の合間に、師と仰いだファーブルを手本に虫の生態を自分流に書き綴った「熊田版ファーブル昆虫記」が自宅で発見された。
手書きで「ファーブル」とタイトルと記した厚紙を表紙に、ガムテープで背をとめた、厚いスクラップブックのような手作り本。
恐らく絵本制作用の下調べも兼ねたその内容は驚くほど細かく、分かりやすく虫の生態をまとめている。一方で、虫の生活や性質を人間の暮らしや習性になぞらえてみたり、個性とユーモアに溢れる。
幼少の頃は勉強が大嫌いだった著者が、夢中でまとめたこの「自主勉強帖」は、学ぶとは何かを教えてくれる貴重な記録の書。
