| Baure Gori Pre-prepared Mask This is a deep red Baure Gori pre-prepared mask. It is an old item. The color has a very nice taste due to age. Baure tribe pre-prepared mask This is a traditional wooden mask with a sun motif from the Baure tribe in Cote d'Ivoire. In Baure villages, a traditional dance called "gori" is performed at funerals, when an important person in the village is lost, when disaster strikes, or when there is entertainment. [The gori uses four types of masks, each representing a family of spirits. [The first of these masks is the son (the youngest male), dressed in raffia palm leaves and goat fur, followed by his father [gorigonan (glen)], then his mother [pan], and then his daughter [panpure]. The red type is worn by women and the black type by men, but all are worn by young men, and there are various types depending on the village. The pamplet mask also became famous when it was used as a motif on the cover jacket of jazz pianist Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters" album. |

バウレ族のプレプレ面
コートジボワールのバウレ族に伝わる、太陽をモチーフにした伝統的な木の仮面です。バウレ族の村では村の重要な人物が無くなった葬儀や災難に見舞われたとき、また、娯楽の余興の場面などで「ゴリ」と呼ばれる伝統的なダンスが行われます。「ゴリ」には四種類の仮面が用いられ、それらは精霊の一家を表しています。「プレプレ」はその中で、初めにダンスを行う息子（年少男子）の役割で全身をラフィア椰子の葉と山羊の毛皮で出来た衣装に身を包んだ姿で登場し、そのあとに続き父親の「ゴリゴナン（グレン）」、続いて母親の「パン」、娘（年少女子）の「パンプレ」が登場することを伝えます。赤いタイプは女性、黒いタイプは男性とされますが着用しているのはいずれも若い男性で地域の村々によりいろいろなタイプが存在します。
また、プレプレ面はジャズピアニストであるハービーハンコックの「ヘッドハンターズ」カバージャケットにモチーフとして使われたことでも有名となりました。
