Katsushika Hokusai

Born in Edo between 1760 and 1849 (Horeki 10 - Kaei 2), Katsushika Hokusai began painting at around the age of 6. At 19, he became a student of Katsugawa Shunsho and entered the world of ukiyoe painting, learning various painting styles including Kano school, Tosa school, Rim school, Chinese painting and Western style painting. He was also widely influenced by the French Impressionists and other European painters. He also had a wide influence on the French Impressionists and other European artists. His representative works include "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," "Waterfalls around the Country," and "Hokusai Manga.
