With the establishment of a new compulsory high school history course [history synthesis] that integrates world history and Japanese history and emphasizes the ability to think, there is a growing need for reform of history education at the liberal arts level at universities as well.

This book is a new textbook based on a trial lesson at Osaka University, presenting a new methodology of historiography that transcends existing classifications and connects global history and university history education.

(1) Covers a wide range of regions, and enables students to relativize the Western-centered view of history.
(2) Covers diachronically from ancient times to the present, including the pre-modern period (ancient to modern).
(3) Close cooperation with high school and university faculty members to ensure high school-university collaboration.

This is an ambitious work following [Frontiers of History], [Global History and Empires], and [Global History and Wars].

Introduction: New University History Education from the Perspective of Global History: Between Japanese History and World History
Chapter 1: The Beginning of the Use of Kanji in the Japanese Islands and East Asia
Chapter 2: The Early International Borrowing Mission to China and Japanese Diplomacy: The Interrelationship between [National Interests] and Capital
Chapter 3: Exclusion of Indian Immigrants and the Formation of the Indo-Pacific World at the Turn of the Century
Chapter 4: Interwar Cultural Internationalism and [Nitobe's Apostles]
Chapter 5: World History from the Perspective of Franco-Japanese Relations (1858-1945): The World Market and International Status
