In Japan, however, yokai art is a broad field that has been familiar to both children and adults since ancient times. It is also an important subject closely related to indigenous Japanese culture and religion, such as nature beliefs and local folklore. This project is an attempt to reexamine the genealogy of "yokai" paintings, which have not been discussed in the mainstream of art history, in order to explore the unique laughter and humor of Japanese art. This exhibition will provide an opportunity to reconsider the characteristic aspects of Japanese art, such as laughter and playfulness, which have not been discussed in the mainstream of art history.
