Description
The beauty that is the fruit of the "chic" of new printmaking techniques and the "luxury" of corporate eccentricities. Shotaro Kaga was involved in the founding of Nikka Whiskey and was active as an economist in the Kansai region, and created the Oyamazaki Villa known as the "House of Beauty. A lover of nature and beauty, Kaga devoted his passion for orchids as his "lifelong hobby. In 1946 (Showa 21), Kaga, fearing wartime turmoil, had Ikeda Zuigetsu, a Japanese-style painter under the tutelage of Kijima Sakuraya, a master of the Kyoto art world, paint the original, invited top engravers and printers, and published "Orchids" using the "new print" technique, which was highly regarded worldwide at the time. This book reproduces all 104 illustrations and reveals the world of orchids and the beauty of Shotaro Kaga through "Orchid Album" from botanical, technical, and art historical perspectives. |
