What kind of people were the [Shirakaba] school, including Mushanokoji Saneatsu*Shiga Naoya*Nagayo Yoshiro?

Shirakaba, a literary coterie magazine founded by Saneatsu Mushanokoji, Naoya Shiga, and more than a dozen others and published for 14 years, attracted many sympathizers during the Taisho era (1912-1926) and had a broad impact. [Although the Shirakaba school is a major presence in the history of literature and culture, its core and overall image have yet to be clarified. This book reveals the whole picture of the Shirakaba School, which remains shrouded in mystery: why the diverse personalities of the group were able to unite so strongly, and why they were particularly devoted to Western art.
It also examines the relationship with Western literature and art, and the development process of the Japanese art world (Western-style painting), and elaborates on the reality of the [Shirakaba] school, which moved amidst various connections based on social changes during the Taisho period.
