Description
These thermal pants (shells) are designed for temperatures equivalent to LEVEL 7 of the current ECWCS. Basically, it is a combination of a satin shell and a mohair pile liner, worn over M51 wool field pants or M51 field pants. As with LEVEL 7, it is worn only in standby situations (e.g., surveillance missions) that do not involve strenuous physical activity. (To prevent heat shock conditions caused by excessive sweating.) Because they are designed to be worn over layers, the front pockets are of the through-through type, and they are one of the thickest (crosswise) of all previous U.S. military pants. There are no belt loops, but drawcords at the waist and M50 trouser suspenders are used. The M51 Arctic Trouser and M50 Snow Camo Pant were discontinued in the early 1970s, and the (M65) Arctic Snow Camo Pant was adopted to fill both roles. *Pants*. |
