Description
Sawako Goda lived a life unrestrained by social conventions and customs, and her life was uninhibited and glamorous. The long-awaited publication of the first and largest retrospective collection of her work since her death; Sawako Goda (1940-2016) was born in Kochi, Japan, and since her debut solo exhibition in 1965, she has developed her creative activities while crossing media such as objects, paintings, and photographs. Her collaborations with Juro Karo and Shuji Terayama, her acclaim from art critics such as Shuzo Takiguchi, and her affinity with trans-disciplinary fields such as fashion and music led her to embody the atmosphere of an era when the underground was flourishing. However, after the 1990s, the artist's decadent style was shed, and he began to deepen his introspective world filled with dazzling light. Distancing himself from the trends of his time, the artist's attitude is not limited to one style, and his works are supported by his one and only originality. The whole picture of this exhibition will give us an important suggestion for those of us who live in this time. |
