Description
*From the portfolio Morimura Yasumasa [Balconegro on the table], [1984]*. 1984 This is a series of black-and-white photographs created by Yasumasa Morimura in 1984, before his debut with "Portrait (Van Gogh)" (1985), composed of various objects on the table in his studio. We have selected five images from this series and printed them on collotype, which is now a rarity in the world. The title of the series, "Barco Negro" means "black boat" in Portuguese, and is a famous folk song by Amalia Rodrigues, which became world famous. This song was a memorable song for the artist at the time, and the melody of this melancholy song was the background for the creation of this work. The titles are, from the top left of the image, [City on the Tabletop*Arc de Triomphe], [Water Tower-1 (dedicated to Brancusi)], [Tower in the Forest*Moon Starry Night], [What the Bride Gazed Upon*Wind Flicker], [City on the Tabletop*Stadium]. What is *Colotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, which makes them more realistic and detailed as in a photograph. Yasumasa Morimura Born in Osaka in 1951, Morimura began creating self-portraits around the age of 34, in which he himself became a Van Gogh self-portrait. Since then, he has continued to create works on the theme of "self-portrait-like works" and has been active both in Japan and abroad. His representative works are "I Who Became an Actress" and "Requiem for Something. The *Mini Portfolio Series is a series that focuses on the size and content of the sets so that users can easily enjoy photographic works with the expressive power that only Collotype can offer. Each set contains 8 x 10" sheets of collotype prints, which can be held in your hands one at a time for your enjoyment, or framed for your interior decoration. |
