| Kataoka Kumaoka was born in Sapporo and studied at a women's art school. After studying at a women's art school, she devoted herself to becoming a painter while working as a teacher, and continued to be active mainly in the Japan Art Institute Exhibition. In an era when it was very difficult for women to live alone and work as painters, Kataoka's strong individualistic style led her to be repeatedly unsuccessful in the Inten Exhibition until she was accepted, earning her the nickname "the god of unsuccessful applicants. The kindness of the strict but generous love and time he devoted to his children as an elementary school teacher is also heartwarming.
