This book proposes to re-read this important declaration, consisting of 30 articles, with the help of illustrations filled with the power of evocative images. Thirty-two contemporary artists who have contributed to this endeavor have created visual representations of the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which are pillars of our common human heritage, including freedom, equality, education, and private life. In addition, the book presents gems of writing by ancient and contemporary writers, philosophers, and politicians to delve into the key themes set forth in each article and to document the fight against the anti-enlightenment. |

★2022年より、国際基督教大学の入学式で新入生に配布。
『世界人権宣言』の名前は、誰もが知っているだろう。しかし、この宣言を実際に読んだことがある人、さらには内容まできちんと理解している人は、それほどいないはずである。
そこで本書は、30条からなるこの重要な宣言を、イメージが呼びさます力に満ちたイラストを手がかりに、読みなおすことを提案する。
本書の試みに賛同した32人の現代アーティストが、自由、平等、教育、私生活など、人類共通の遺産の柱となる『世界人権宣言』の条文を視覚的に表現した。さらに、各条文に掲げられた重要なテーマを掘り下げ、反啓蒙主義との戦いを記録に残すため、古今の作家、哲学者、政治家たちによる珠玉の文章を紹介している。
