*Helen Scharfbeck (1862-1946)

Born in Helsinki in 1862.

At the age of three, she had an accident that left her left leg crippled. She was unable to attend school due to this disability, but at the age of 11, she was discovered to have a talent for painting by a private tutor.

At the age of 18, he received a scholarship to Paris to experience the cutting edge of art.

Strongly influenced by Manet, Cézanne, and Whistler, he also traveled to Brittany in France* and Cornwall in England*, which greatly broadened his view of art.

He returned to Finland to teach at a drawing school in Helsinki, but resigned his position due to illness and moved with his mother to Huivinkaa to recuperate, where he remained for 15 years while continuing to work.
