Description
Telegraph poles also go well with Fuji. --In our days, there were power lines and telephone poles. That was the normal scenery. From the early Meiji period to the present day, all the works depicting electric wires* and poles are on display! Tokyo is undergoing a massive conversion to no power lines as the city prepares to host the Tokyo Olympics*Paralympics. Will the cityscape with its clear line of sight become a landscape that will be remembered for future generations? ...... The clutter of the city with electric wires running in all directions is for us the unadorned, unaltered landscape of the hometowns and cities we have grown accustomed to since childhood, a landscape that has been etched into our minds along with nostalgia. It is also a landscape that has been depicted by many painters over the ages, including Kishida Ryusei, Kobayashi Seichika, Kawanabe Kyosai, Kawase Tomoei, Asai Kanjiemon, Yamaguchi Akira, Sakamoto Tokuro, and many others. This book is a very unique collection of works featuring only the electric wires, telegraph poles, and overhead wires that were symbols of the modern city from the early Meiji period to the present day, symbols of the sunny modernization and expansion of "Tokyo". The 150 works in this collection will surely bring back memories of our old city. This is a book to turn the pages of while immersed in nostalgia. This book is both a catalog and a publication of the exhibition of the same name held at the Nerima Art Museum. Edited by Nerima Art Museum B5, 176 pages (about 160 illustrations) |
