| It quickly went into heavy print and sold over 7,000 copies! First time in Japan. Official catalogue and book of the exhibition [by Francis*Bacon Barry *Jules* Collection], which will be held at the Museum of Modern Art, Kanagawa from January to April 2021, and then travel to the Shoto Museum of Art, Shibuya from April to June. Just before his death, Francis Bacon, one of the most famous English painters of the 20th century, suddenly entrusted over 1,000 documents to his young friend Barry Joule, who had spent the last years of his life close to him. The book includes many drawings from the preparatory stage, which had been considered not to be painted until then, and through images written directly on photographs and reproductions, as well as surrealistic paintings of the artist's youth before he was recognized by the world, we can see the origin of the artist's ideas. 2021年1月〜4月に神奈川県立近代美術館で開催、その後、4月〜6月に渋谷区立松濤美術館に巡回する「フランシス・ベーコン バリー・ジュール・コレクションによる」展の公式図録兼書籍。
20世紀を代表するイギリス人画家フランシス・ベーコンは、死の直前、晩年を身近で過ごした若き友人バリー・ジュール氏に突然千点を超えるドキュメントを託した。その中にはそれまで描かないとされていた準備段階のドローイングが多数含まれ、写真や複製画に直接書き込まれたイメージ、世の中に認められる以前の若き日のシュールレアリスム的な絵画などを通じて、画家の発想の源流が見えてくる。
巻頭には、バリー・ジュール氏自身による、ベーコンとの知られざる日常や対話を書き下ろしたエッセイを29頁にわたり掲載。
