Kanayama Town in Yamagata Prefecture is a northern town with beautiful scenery that plays in each of the four seasons. In the Edo period (1603-1867), the town flourished as an inn town on the Hashu Kaido Road, and the Englishwoman Isabella *Bird, who traveled to Japan in the Meiji period (1868-1912), wrote about the charm of the area. In Kanayama Town, the "100 Year Townscape Building Campaign" is underway to preserve and rebuild the old townscape. This book is a collection of photographs of Kanayama taken by Arata Iura, an actor associated with Yamagata, at the behest of the two architects who have played a central role in the town's development. 山形県金山町は四季折々に美しい風景を奏でる北国の町。江戸時代には羽州街道の宿場町として栄え、明治に日本を旅した英国人イザベラ・バードもその地の魅力を記している。金山町では、古い「街並み」を保存しつつ再構築する「街並みづくり100年運動」が行われている。
本書はその街並みづくりの中心となってきた建築家ふたりからのいざないで、山形ゆかりの俳優・井浦新が金山町を撮り下ろした写真集。
